This page contains actual video examples from a recent head-mounted eye-tracking experiment. In order to view these on-line, you need QuickTime 3.0. However, we have discovered that RAM constraints often impair the quality of the videos when viewed through a web browser. Therefore, we recommend downloading the videos instead. Note that whether you download the videos or view them through your web browser, the download time on an *ethernet* connection may be as much as three minutes.

How to download:
If you are working from a Macintosh machine, hold down the mouse button on the link until the popup menu appears, then select "Save this link" and choose "source" rather than "text" as the format. For PC users, the right mouse button brings up the popup menu, from which you select "Save this link".

Adult subjects:

• 1 Referent, Ambiguous
  
  Setup:  Hippo on towel, Empty towel, Monkey, Basket
  Instruction:  "Put the hippo on the towel in the basket."
  
• 1 Referent, Unambiguous
  Setup:  Lion, Empty plate, Frog on plate, Box
  Instruction:  "Put the frog that's on the plate in the box."
  
• 2 Referent, Ambiguous
  Setup:  Box, Bear on plate, Empty plate, Bear
  Instruction:  "Put the bear on the plate in the box."
  
• 2 Referent, Unambiguous
  Setup:  Empty napkin, Pot, Frog, Frog on napkin
  Instruction:  "Put the frog that's on the napkin in the pot."
  

Five-year-old subjects:

• 1 Referent, Ambiguous
  Setup:  Empty napkin, Pot, Horse, Frog on napkin
  Instruction:  "Put the frog on the napkin in the pot."
  Action:  Hops frog first to empty napkin, then into pot.
  
• 1 Referent, Ambiguous in Real Time
  Same as above, played at the speed it would appear in real time.
  
• 1 Referent, Unambiguous
  Setup:  Empty towel, Lion on towel, Basket, Duck
  Instruction:  "Put the lion that's on the towel in the basket.
  Action:  Picks up lion and drops into basket.
  
• 2 Referent, Ambiguous
  Setup:  Hippo on towel, Empty towel, Hippo, Basket
  Instruction:  "Put the hippo on the towel in the basket.
  Action:  Hops the "other" hippo (the one not on the towel) first onto the empty towel, then into the basket.
• 2 Referent, Unambiguous
  Setup:  Empty towel, Monkey on towel, Basket, Monkey
  Instruction:  "Put the monkey that's on the towel in the basket.
  Action:  Picks up the "target" monkey (the one on the towel) and puts it in the basket.
  
• Filler Trial
  Setup:  
  Pig, Box, Hippo, Tray Instructions:  
  (1) "Put the pig on the tray."  (2) "Put the hippo with the pig."
  Actions:  (1) Puts the pig on the tray.   (2) Puts the hippo on the tray.
