Phonetic categorization and phonological interpretation in infants and toddlers

In the first year of life, infants start learning both the words and the speech sounds of their native language. These two complex systems of categories are related in interesting ways, but developmental explorations of how perceptual learning at one level may influence learning at the other have only just begun. I will present experiments and analyses that address this issue.
