Dual Degree Program
in Computer and Cognitive Science
SAS and SEAS jointly offer a special dual degree in Computer and Cognitive Science, which has two components:
- A degree from the department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). This degree can be of two types:
The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Computer Science
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in Computer Science and Engineering
- A degree in a field related to cognitive science, located in the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). These include:
Biological Basis of Behavior
Linguistics
Mathematics
Philosophy
Psychology
The student must satisfy the course requirements for both degrees: with the BAS the dual degree normally takes four years (with a minimum of 40 course units), and with the BSE it normally takes five years (minimum 46 course units). A 3.0 cumulative GPA is required for the dual degree program.
Note that it is not permitted to include the BAS in Cognitive and Computer Science (from SEAS) or the BA in Cognitive Science (from SAS) as part of this dual degree. These individual majors, by their very nature, already have significant overlap across the schools, and their inclusion would diminish the value of the dual degree.
Interested students should contact the Office of Academic Programs in SEAS and an Assistant Dean for Advising in SAS. For more information on dual degrees, students in the College may consult this SAS page, and students in Engineering may consult this SEAS page.
